Der Beitrag führt in das Thema des "Exils in und aus Prag" ein, und damit zugleich in den Gegenstand des Themenheftes der Prager Zeitschrift "brücken", in dem der Beitrag als Einleitung erscheint. Zunächst wird allgemein auf die Aktualität des Themas Exil in der heutigen politischen Welt und auch in Hinblick auf den andauernden Moderne-Diskurs hingewiesen. Darauf folgt eine historische Übersicht über die Exilsituation in den 1930er Jahren in Prag, wobei besonders die Relevanz des Ortes für das politische und künstlerische Exil verdeutlicht wird. Dann werden die verschiedenen Exilwege des Prager literarischen Exils nach 1939 nachgezeichnet und in einem dritten Abschnitt (in Orientierung an den folgenden Beiträgen des Themenheftes), Besonderheiten der biographischen Erfahrung und künstlerischen Produktion der verschiedenen Autoren (wie u.a. Grab, Fürnberg, Rühle-Gerstel, Brežná) hervorgehoben. In einem abschließenden vierten Abschnitt werden in einer Zusammenschau sieben Thesen zur künstlerischen Produktion des Prager Exils formuliert, die die Pragerliteratur insgesamt als eine besondere Form der Ausgestaltung der literarischen Moderne erscheinen lassen, etwa indem ein Zusammenhang zwischen der abstrakten Thematisierung moderner Bürokratie bei Franz Kafka und ihrer realistisch-grotesken Darstellung bei Autoren wie Krenek oder Rühle-Gerstel hergestellt wird.

This article introduces the topic of "Exile in and from Prague" and, at the same time, the issue of the Prague journal "brücken", in which the article appears as an introduction. First, the article generally points to the relevance of the topic of exile in today's political world and also in light of the ongoing discourse on modernity. This is followed by a historical overview of the exile situation in Prague during the 1930s, highlighting in particular the city's significance for political and artistic exile. The article then traces the various paths of authors, which had to leave Prague after 1939. In a third section (following the subsequent articles in this journal), the article emphasizes the distinctive features of the biographical experiences and artistic output of various authors (such as Grab, Fürnberg, Rühle-Gerstel, and Brežná). In a concluding fourth section, seven theses on the artistic production of the Prague exile are formulated in a way, which make Prague literature as a whole appear as a special form of the development of literary modernism, for example by establishing a connection between the abstract thematization of modern bureaucracy in Franz Kafka and its realistic-grotesque depiction in authors such as Krenek or Rühle-Gerstel.
