Der Beitrag befasst sich mit den offiziellen bilateralen Beziehungen zwischen der Tschechoslowakei und Österreich in der 2. Hälfte der 1980-er Jahre, insbesondere in dem Wendejahr 1989. Trotz der fortdauernden Bipolarität im internationalen Umfeld war eine spürbar zunehmende Multilateralsierung wichtiger Themenbereiche wie Sicherheit, Wirtschaft, Umwelt, Bürger- und Menschenrechte usw. zu verzeichnen. Die graduelle Öffnung neuer Spielräume für die Diplomatie konnte man dabei als Folge der sowjetischen Perestroika, der erfolgreichen Entspannugspolitik sowie des fortschreitenden KSZE-Prozesses betrachten. Spezielles Interesse wird dabei dem tschechoslowakischen Österreichbild vor dem Fall des Eisernen Vorhang gewidmet.

The article deals with the official bilateral relations between Czechoslovakia and Austria in the 2nd half of the 1980's years, especially in the critical year 1989. Despite the continuing bipolarity in the international environment was a noticeable increase of multilateral issues such as security, the economy , environmental , civil and human rights , etc. recorded . The gradual opening up new scope for diplomacy could be considered as a result of Soviet perestroika, the successful Détente-policy and the progress of the CSCE-process . Special interest is paid to the Czechoslovak Austria image before the fall of the Iron Curtain .
