Democratic Transformation in Post-Conflict Societies: Path to Ensured Success
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Democratic transformation in post-conflict societies has come under severe pressure in recent years due to the economic recession, subsequent migration crisis and political radicalization. This now represents one of the most acute challenges to European liberal democracies. In order to understand the dynamics of this development, it is important to indicate and analyse the key issues and problems faced by these new democracies (such as the changing politics of history, civil society engagement, trends in political participation and questions of solidarity within and beyond the EU member states). The conference was therefore dedicated to a comparative analysis of post-conflict societies as well as to the problems challenging their democratic development. The conference participants focused on the following issues: current conflicts in the politics of history, civil society engagement, trends in political participation, and challenges of post-conflict democracies. The keynote speakers were Peter Rutland (Wesleyan University), Bianca Bican (Babeș-Bolyai University) and Nikos Marantzidis (University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki). The event was kindly supported by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Prag and Deutch-Tschechicher Zukunftsfonds.
