Westsplaining avant lalettre in Libuše Moníkovás Romanen Treibeisund Die FassadeAlena ZelenáAbstractsDer Aufsatz bietet eine neue Perspektive auf die essayistischen und fiktionalen Werke Libuše Moní-kovás, indem die Motive und narrativen Strategien untersucht werden, die als Westsplaining avantla lettre verstanden werden können. Ziel des Beitrags ist es, eine neue Interpretation der RomaneMoníkovás Die Fassade und Treibeis im Kontext mit ihrem Essay Kirschfeste zu entwickeln, die mitMoníkovás Überlegungen zum Konzept sowie zu einer möglichen Überwindung und Unterminie-rung der Ost-West-Teilung zusammenhängen. Darüberhinaus wird gezeigt, wie eine Erweiterungdes dem Westsplaining zugeordneten Textkorpus um frühere thematisch verwandte Texte zum bes-seren Verständnis der Genese dieser Haltung beitragen kann.

The article offers a new perspective on two fictional works of Libuše Moníková and her essay byanalyzing motifs and narrative strategies that can be understood as Westsplaining avant la lettre. Itaims to reinterpret the novels Die Fassade and Treibeis in connection with her essay Kirschfestesituating them within the concept of Mitteleuropa (Central Europe) and to explore how they poten-tially transcend or even undermine the East-West-Division. Furthermore, the article demonstrateshow expanding the corpus of texts associated with Westsplaining by including earlier texts on simi-lar topics contributes to a better understanding of the genesis of this perspective.
