The Dilemma of Contemporary Science: How to Reconcile the Requirement for High Specialization with the Need for a Holistic View of the World
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This chapter is devoted to the consequences for modern science of long-term historical development. German sociologist Ulrich Beck points out that one source of the risks that threaten us today is the "hyper-complexity" of science. With the gradual differentiation of various disciplines there emerges a confusing number of specialized knowledge areas that science is often not able to connect and understand in mutual relation. There are tensions that prevent cooperation, although the situation cries out for interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition, an unsolved problem remains the question of what principles should govern complex approaches to the development of interdisciplinary research.
