The paper deals with the actual problem of a climate change impact on water resources and with the assessment of its consequences to present natural hazards and risks in high mountain areas. Different types of mountain lakes in Tien-Shan (Kyrgyzstan) areassessed with regard to the risk of their rupture. Within the hazard analyses, evolution of glaciers and lakes was reconstructed using historical reports, aerial photographs and satellite images.
