Spatial patterns on a very small scale (10cm) and the effect of artificial barriers on the composition of phytobenthic algal assemblages along two transects within different microhabitat types were investigated. Differences in species composition in various parts of the transects were observed but this pattern was primarily related to the abundance of species rather than to their presence/absence in samples.
