In the chapter, the term "population aging" is defined as an increase of the proportion of seniors in a population as well as the absolute increase of the numbers of seniors in a population. In the analysis, both the approaches are used. Using the Old-age dependency ratio and tempo of its change, the process of population aging and its intensity is introduced in rather a traditional manner. In the second part of the text a less common approach is used and based on the usage of the population pyramids the absolute change of the numbers of seniors is described. The analysis uses data related to the population of Europe and Africa for illustration, then the selected countries with a specific development of aging were used - Japan, Italy and United Arab Emirates. The process of population aging was the most intensive one in Japan during the 2nd half of the 20th century. During that period, the number of the oldest seniors (aged 80 and more) increased in Japan more than 27 times. It is clear, that population aging in Africa is likely to reach its highest intensity during the 21st century.
