"What did it mean to be a woman in the 19th and 20th centuries? To answer this question, the authors of the book went looking for clues in Bavarian Swabia. They came across simple, inconspicuous objects that concealed exciting life stories, archive finds and contemporary witness statements that made the stories of very different women's lives visible. This book brings together the individual biographies and places them in the historical circumstances of their time. It continually draws lines of content between the “small” life stories and the “big, whole” story."
