Copper Nitride Nanoparticles Synthesized via Post-Magnetron Sputtering for Low-Temperature Hydrogen Sensing
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Copper nitride (Cu3N) is gaining attention as a defect-tolerant semiconductor with an indirect band gap and tunable optoelectronic properties, making it a promising alternative to noble metals for electrochemical applications. In this study, we report a sustainable, solvent-free synthesis of Cu3N nanoparticles (NPs) via reactive sputtering in nitrogen, using a gas aggregation cluster source (GAS) equipped with a cylindrical magnetron and a rotating magnetic field -eliminating the need for toxic wet-chemical precursors. The synthesized NPs exhibit a uniform cubic morphology (ALMOST EQUAL TO 15 nm) with a Pm3̅m crystal structure and hollow cores, as confirmed by high-resolution TEM analysis. These semiconducting NPs remain thermally stable up to 175 °C in air and 300 °C in vacuum. Capitalizing on their high surface-to-volume ratio, we fabricated a resistive hydrogen sensor that responds clearly at temperatures below 60 °C, demonstrating the potential of Cu3N for mid-temperature hydrogen sensing applications.
