This article explores the historiographical approach to representing the historical context of Shakespeare’s England, focusing on the intersection of literature and history. It examines how portraits of the era have been constructed through the lens of Shakespeare's works, and how these representations have evolved over time. The article critically engages with the various methods by which historians and literary scholars have interpreted the socio-political and cultural dynamics of early modern England, considering both the potential and limitations of using Shakespeare as a historical source. By reflecting on the historiographical debates surrounding the portrayal of Elizabethan society, the article discusses the ways in which Shakespeare's plays can illuminate contemporary issues, while also questioning the assumptions underlying their historical interpretations. Ultimately, the paper addresses the tension between historical accuracy and literary imagination, offering insights into how different historiographical approaches shape our understanding of the past.
