This bachelor thesis examines the Czech movie 'Forbidden Dreams' (1986) within a cultural-historical context. The emphasis is on the events of World War II centred around the mass deportation of Jewish citizens. The first part analyses events from a historical perspective and the second part is dedicated to the lives of the director Karel Kachyňa and the author of the book, Ota Pavel and further examines how the film deals with the topic of the Holocaust and perception of the Second World War. The final chapter deals with audience perception of the film in 1987, and it evaluates the overall relationship between film and history on the selected movie.
