The portrayal of Muslim masculinities in Western literature often perpetuates negative stereotypes of Muslim men. This issue leads Muslim men to an identity crisis. While Muslim masculinities have been studied in various academic fields, there is a lack of discussion on this topic in Anglophone fiction. Integrating Anglophone fiction into the discourse on Muslim masculinities can provide a deeper understanding of its complexities by exploring how literary representations intersect with real-life experiences and societal perceptions. Examining the differences between Muslim and Western representations, this study aims to establish an empirical framework that combines established concepts of Islamic and Muslim masculinities, the theory of masculinities, and literary analysis. It focuses on region-specific factors to capture the nuances of Muslim masculinities in diverse global South contexts. By close reading of The Good Muslim and The Accidental Malay, the study seeks to understand how masculinities are shaped by ethnicity, nationality, cultural and historical contexts within Muslim settings. The main objective of this study is to explore the dynamics of Muslim masculinities through the lens of Anglophone fictional works by Muslim authors. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
