A unique series of stove tiles from Veselí nad Moravou; UNIKÁTNÍ SOUBOR KAMNOVÝCH KACHLU Z VESELÍ NAD MORAVOU
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Minor archaeological research in the course of the construction of garages in the historical centre of the town of Veselí nad Moravou yielded an iconographically unique collection of 30 fragmentarily preserved tiles and one building element. They are base, extension and cornice tiles, rectangular and square, as well as pot tiles. Some of the motifs feature unusual heraldic decoration supplemented by text on inscription bands (the coat of arms of the Bishop of Nitra Anton of Šankovice, the papal coat of arms and the coat of arms of the town of Uherské Hradiště), and the series also includes a relief rendering of the coat of arms of the Lords of Kunštát, a motif known from the Prague milieu as the coat of arms of Kouřim, a pair of Marian flowers (roses and lilies) and two variants of geometrical decoration. Six of the eight motifs have a direct analogy in finds from Uherské Hradiště, and 3D analyses of the reliefs from both series show that they come from moulds made from a single positive. This conclusion corresponds to the results of micropetrographic analysis. With part of the collection, a connection with tiles from Nitra and Banská Bystrica should be pointed out. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
