This article aims to apply an ethical and a legal perspective to sports betting as a threat to sport and to analyse it on the international level. To achieve this, the article first explains the values of sport, gambling, and sports betting, and shows how gambling and sports betting can endinger sport. Next, the article discusses international legal norms and measures of the betting market, for example the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions. Finally, recommendations will be presented regarding the betting market, and conclusions will be drawn, with a critical appreciation of findings.
