Evolution of Electronic Records Management Systems, Digital Archiving and Czech Universities: From Student Information Systems to Digital Records Management and Long Term Preservation
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Historically Czech Universities handled digital documents at first in specialized information systems (e.g. systems for student agenda) and no systematic attention was paid to their archiving. The situation is changing lately as institutions often involve digital archiving in their long-term plans. According to Czech legislation there are two possible solutions - National Digital Archive assuming the responsibility for long term preservation of digital documents or the institution itself can found its own digital archive. The NDA project is falling behind in schedule the last few years and the delay as well as specific needs of universities results in decision of some universities to consider building their own digital archive. The most serious candidate is Masaryk University, which has an experienced IT department at its disposal. Charles University prepared a feasibility study of digital archiving and currently is in the process of decision making. The presentation focuses on the expected solutions of digital archiving according the Czech legislation.
