The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of urbanizationin the CR upon the coexistenceof domesticated dogs and their owners. We divided the data from a questionaire (distributed to owners of the dogs) into rural (164) and urban (132). households. We concluded that, althoughthe characteristics of co-existenceof people and their dogs under study have different biological significance, it is obvius that in urbanized environmentof Czech society as this coexistence became more intimate. Furthermore, hoseholds members changed their behaviour more than thier dogs. This transformation of behaviour notwithstanding, with even more rapid urbanizationof human society, dogs are still viewed asdesirable and suitable companions for human. No dobt, this isbecause dogs possess an outstandingsocial cognition vis-á-vis people and even in an urban environmentthey are able to aptand thrive under new conditions of the inter-species co-existence, i.e. contributing to the human - animal bond.
