Partant de l'hypothese de l'universalité du phénomene argotique, la publication tend a analyser les facteurs de la genese, de la propagation et de la circulation du lexique argotique dans trois milieux socialement disparates de Paris, d'Yzeure (Allier, 03) en France et de Brno en République tcheque aupres des classes scolaires de lycées professionnels. Le corpus est constitué de la combinaison de trois méthodes de recherche, a savoir l'observation participante, le questionnaire et l'entretien semi-directif qui avaient pour but de relier l'approche lexico-statistique quantitative et l'approche pragmatico-sociologique qualitative. Il s'avere que les universaux argotiques des jeunes reposent surtout sur la quete de l'expressivité du discours.

Slang universalisms in the language of young students in vocational schools in France and in Czech Republic

This book deals with the term "youth slang" in its psychological and sociological motivations and tries to find common aspects for all teenagers, which could be called "youth slang universalisms", from a sample of students from three sociolinguisticallydifferent localities. It combines three methods of data-collection: participant observation in chosen classes where conversation was recorded secretly, a questionnaire about slang terms used between peers, and finally interviews involving epilinguistic topics. This research highlighted the increasing role of mass-media in the constitution of "common youth slang", how speaking some special type of slang relates to concepts of teenage identity, and the representation of a "slang imagination" that is shownin the example of Brno's local slang (known as "hantec") and in the slang of young descendants of immigrants in France, spoken mainly in Parisian suburban areas.
