Tätigkeit der antiken Kritiker dar. Ihr Hauptziel war es, zum richtigen Textverständnis beizutragen, wobei bei der Analyse sowohl der sprachliche als auch der literarische Aspekt herangezogen wurden. Die Scholien reflektieren somit gewissermaßen den Stand der Sprachforschung in der Antike, aus deren Kommentaren die Scholiasten das Material für ihre Bemerkungen schöpften. Der Artikel bietet eine kurze Übersicht über die sprachwissenschaftlich orientierte Forschung in den altgriechischen Scholien. Es werden vier Scholienkorpora untersucht, wobei jedes Korpus einer anderen literarischen Gattung oder einem anderen Genre angehört.

Scholia represent a significant heritage of the philological activity of ancient critics . Their main aim was to contribute to correct understanding of the text while taking into regard both the linguistic and literary perspectives. Scholia reflect thusthe linguistic research in the antiquity of which the contribution brings a brief overview.
