Der 28. Juni figuriert im vorliegenden Roman als Überschrift zweier Kapitel, die zum einen das Attentat auf den Thronfolger und seine Frau selbst, zum anderen die Renunziation (Thronfolgeverzichterklärung) Franz Ferdinands von 1900 zum Thema haben. Mit dem Datum wird ferner an die Niederlage der Serben auf dem Amselfeld und in margine an den Sokolkongreß in Brno/ Brünn (27.-28.6.1914) erinnert, zu dem Massen von Südslawen aus Serbien und Bosnien nach Mähren pilgern, welche von der Gattin des Thronfolgers bei ihrer Reise nach Sarajevo voller dunkler Vorahnung gemustert werden. In diesem narrativen Zusammenspiel ereignisschwerer Daten dürfte der Sokolkongreß (ausführlicher dargestellt etwa in Bruno Brehms Apis und Este) und sein geschichtlicher Hintergrund wohl am wenigsten bekannt sein.

June 28th appears in the novel as the title of two chapters dealing firstly with the assassination of the heir and his wife and secondly with the renunciation of the throne by Franz Ferdinand in 1900. The date also recalls the defeat of the Serbs at theBattle of Kosovo (?Kosovo Field?) and marginaly also Sokol rally in Brno (Královo Pole ? ?Kings´ Field?), which directed the masses of Sokol members from Serbia and Bosnia to Moravia and pursues the wife of the heir during his fateful journey to Sarajevo. In this narrative interplay is Sokol rally (more comprehensively presented in the first part of the trilogy Apis and Este by Bruno Brehm) relatively unknown.
