Nowadays, fantastic literature is an influential cultural phenomenon. Not only is it gaining popularity, but also becoming more colourful in attitudes and methods ? fantastic elements are an indivisible part of a significant share of contemporary literature. Its theoretic study has been quite underestimated and marginalized in the Czech environment, especially when it comes to the texts under the heading of "science fiction" or "fantasy", despite the fact they may have very little in common with trivialliterature. To a great extent, this leads to an artificial barrier between different types of fantastic literature, which is based on external rather than internal criteria. We believe that fantastic literature has a potential to both fully and urgentlyexpress the inexpressible within the common literary approaches.
