Czech Art Nouveau Architecture in the Cities of Prague, Brno and Hradec Králové
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The term "Art Nouveau" immediately evokes cities like Brussels or Paris. But what about Art Nouveau in the Czech Republic? My contribution deals with the architecture at the beginning of the 20th century in three Czech cities ? Prague, Brno and Hradec Králové. In the Czech capital, Art Nouveau is mainly manifested in decoration of the facades of apartment buildings. But there are also the whole buildings commissioned in this new style, including their interiors, just like the Main Station and MunicipalHouse. Due to its vicinity, Brno was denoted as a suburb of Vienna. Despite this denomination, Bauer's 1st modern house in Austria was built here. Besides there are other examples of floral, geometric and also folklore variants of Art Nouveau. In the first third of the 20th century Hradec Králové prospered thanks to its mayor František Ulrich. He invited many creative and innovative architects into the city. One of the most important was Jan Kotěra who created e.g. well known City Museum.
