Predictors of Perceived Hope : A four nation comparative study

In the lecture the partial results of the international project „Hope Barometer“ were presented. The aim of the study was to explore the subjects of hope, to reveal the correlates and predictors of hope in Czech sample (N = 753) and to compare the results for four involved countries: Czechia, Switzerland, Germany and France. The analysis revealed the highest level of Perceived hope in Czech sample and the highest dispositional hope in Swiss sample. In all national samples, the main independent predictors of perceived hope are optimism, dispositional hope, life satisfaction and gratitude. The highest Perceived hope in Czech sample show respondents who are married or widowed and who are involved in any kind of volunteering activities. Hope seems to be a significant corrrelate of mental health and serves as a natural balancing force against depression.
