Exhibitions in Prague and Częstochowa and Czechs Visiting Poles in 1909 : Expressions of Neo-Slavism and Economic Nationalism
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This study examines the progress and overall background of two large-scale trips by Czechs to Polish cities in August and September 1909. Both trips took place in the spirit of Neo-Slavism and were intended to contribute to the development of Czech-Polish economic and cultural relations. In addition to discussions on trade and economic cooperation, these trips to cities in Galicia and the Russian Partition were also a display of mutual Czech-Polish solidarity. Despite the fact that this Czech-Polish cooperation was formed along the lines of Neo-Slavism and economic nationalism targeted against German economic hegemony and was not supposed to touch upon political issues, in reality it was not possible to avoid politics during these meetings, particularly the question of Russian-Polish relations and Czech and Polish policies at the Imperial Council. To a certain extent these visits went beyond the scope proposed for Slavonic cooperation by Neo-Slavist principles.
