Název v původním jazyce
Le logos en trone La mise-en-scene du livre comme preuve d’Orthodoxie dans la Méditerranée de l’antiquité tardive et au-dela
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Between the fifth and seventh centuries, images of thrones with a book on them appear in Capua, Rome, Constantinople and Armenia. Such representations are found in monumental mosaics, on bronze doors or painted in manuscripts. From contemporary sources we know that the throne with a volume placed on it was considered a personification of Christ. It is also possible to reconstruct a link between images and ritual practice: thrones bearing a book were in fact the main actors of liturgical performances documented between Rome and Syria. Finally, depictions of thrones with a volume placed on them were accompanied by titles professing Nicene Orthodoxy. The purpose of this intervention is therefore a reflection on the role of liturgical furnishings and images in the context of theological disputes. From contemporary sources it is in fact possible to deduce that the enthroned volume could be perceived as a guarantee and proof of orthodoxy in the late ancient Mediterranean and beyond.
