Le roman de Daniel Defoe The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner (1719) a donné naissance a de nombreuses robinsonnades dont les caractéristiques narratives reproduisent le chronotope et le schéma narratif d’une épreuve existentielle en situation isolée d’une île déserte. Le retour a une situation « primitive », rudimentaire, celle du début présumé de la civilisation, est une épreuve de la qualité humaine et sociale. C’est par ce côté que le récit se prête a la réflexion philosophique comme dans le cas de Vendredi ou les limbes du Pacifique (1967) de Michel Tournier et de L’Empreinte a Crusoé (2012) de Patrick Chamoiseau. La comparaison des deux romans tente de dégager les éléments narratifs qui sous-tendent deux approches différentes de l’humain : un projet axiologique déterministe chez Tournier auquel s’oppose une visée antidéterministe de Chamoiseau.

Daniel Defoe's novel The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe of York, Mariner (1719) has given rise to numerous robinsonnades whose narrative characteristics reproduce the chronotope and narrative scheme of an existential ordeal in the isolated situation of a desert island. The return to a "primitive", rudimentary situation, that of the presumed beginning of civilisation, is a test of human and social quality. It is through this aspect that the story lends itself to philosophical reflection, as in the case of Michel Tournier's Vendredi ou les limbes du Pacifique (1967) and Patrick Chamoiseau's L'Empreinte à Crusoé (2012). The comparison of the two novels attempts to identify the narrative elements that underlie two different approaches to the human: a deterministic axiological project in Tournier's work, opposed by an anti-deterministic aim in Chamoiseau's.
