Le fait que la formulation de la Condition postmoderne de Jean-François Lyotard soit liée au continent américain peut avoir aussi un fondement historique, inscrit dans l’axiologie du champ culturel au sens large. Témoin la littérature canadienne-française et québécoise qui, des ses origines, est marquée par l’hybridité, a différents niveaux. La contribution tente d’en dégager certaines causes – notamment la situation périphérique, la faible structuration et la non-saturation du champ littéraire qui favorisent la juxtaposition des valeurs et le mélange discursif. Le phénomene est illustré a plusieurs niveaux dans un survol historique du XIXe et du XXe siecle : caractéristiques de certains genres, caractéristiques de la vie littéraire, situations et positionnements des écrivains.

The fact that Jean-François Lyotard's formulation of the Postmodern Condition is linked to the American continent may also have a historical basis, inscribed in the axiology of the cultural field. Witness the French-Canadian and Quebecois literature which, from its origins, is marked by hybridity, at different levels. The contribution attempts to identify some of the causes of this phenomenon - notably peripheral situation, weak structuring and non-saturation of the literary field, which favours juxtaposition of values and discursive mixing. The phenomenon is illustrated at several levels in a historical overview of the 19th and 20th centuries: characteristics of certain genres, characteristics of literary life, situations and positions of writers.
