Das Kriegsende 1918 brachte Europa keinen Frieden – schon 1917 begann eine Reihe von (Konter-)Revolutionen, Bürgerkriegen und gewaltsamen Konflikten, die sich über viele europäische Länder ausbreitete und bis 1923 andauerte. Diese Welle der politisch und ideologisch bedingten Gewalt, die sich nach einer Stabilisierungsphase mit der Weltwirtschaftskrise 1929 wieder entfesseln und ihren Höhepunkt mit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg erreichen wird, hängt mit mehreren Ursachen zusammen, die im vorliegenden Sammelband von ForscherInnen aus verschiedenen Ländern, unterschiedlichen Fachdisziplinen und differenten methodologischen Perspektiven aufgegriffen und diskutiert.

The end of the war in 1918 did not bring peace to Europe - as early as 1917 a series of counter-revolutions, civil wars and conflicts began, which affected many European countries and lasted until 1923. This wave of violence, already replaced by stabilization, reappeared World War II is related to the many causes that the present publication seeks to map. Researchers from many countries take part in the publication, numerous disciplines and different perspectives are represented.
