The article deals with the mythological and cosmological motifs and beliefs of selected Colombian tribes (especially the Kogi, the Misak and the Nasa) and how their thinking patterns are reflected in the way they look after their immediate surroundings. It shows how the ideas of sustainability and ecological balance arise from the mythological background of an individual and their social units.
