Sirenen als Bild für eine bedrohliche Form der Weiblichkeit sind seit seinen Anfängen im Film zu finden. Während sie im frühen Film in der Verbindung mit der femme fatale und dem Vamp im übertragenen Sinn gefährliche Verführung repräsentieren, werden sie mit Bezug auf Carol Clover und Barbara Creed im Horrorfilm zu buchstäblichen weiblichen Monstern. An exemplarischen Beispielen aus dem letzten Jahrzehnt (Mamula, SiREN und Córki Dancingu) zeigt der vorliegende Beitrag, wie die mythologische Figur der Sirene im modernen Horrorfilm fortlebt und dort – zumindest für die Länge eines Spielfilms – soziale Ordnungen herausfordert.

Sirens have been a symbol of a threatening form of femininity in film since its beginnings. While in early films they represent dangerous seduction in a metaphorical sense in connection with the femme fatale and the vamp, in horror films they become literal female monsters with reference to Carol Clover and Barbara Creed. Using exemplary examples from the last decade (Mamula, SiREN and Córki Dancingu), this article shows how the mythological figure of the siren lives on in modern horror films and challenges social orders there - at least for the length of a feature film.
