Neben Tarakawa und Dudelsack sind vor allem kleine und große sorbische Geige charakteristisch für die sorbische Volksmusik. Diese werden in vorliegender Studie erstmals umfassend organologisch untersucht und im Zusammenhang europäischer Volksmusikinstrumente erläutert. Durch die Dokumentation aller überlieferten Originalexemplare rücken nicht zuletzt auch Erbauer, Spieler und Sammler der Geigen sowie die sorbische Volksmusik selbst in den Fokus der Untersuchung.

In addition to the tarakawa and bagpipes, small and large Sorbian violins are particularly characteristic of Sorbian folk music. In this study, these are examined comprehensively organologically for the first time and explained in the context of European folk music instruments. By documenting all of the surviving original specimens, the focus of the investigation is not least on the makers, players and collectors of the violins, as well as on Sorbian folk music itself.
