Visions of the Individual and Collective Future in Mongolian Written and Oral Sources : Selected Examples
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
While, in the discourse of scientific, academic and educational writing in Mongolia, "history" (tüüh) is understood as concerning the past, the concept of tüüh for bearers of the oral tradition frequently involved predictions for future as its important part. Also many popular written narrative texts widespread in Mongolia prior to the beginning of the 20th century are labelled "history" (tüüh/teüke), but deal with predictions of future. The understanding of history as embracing the past and the future as found in the Mongolian Buddhist time cosmology became common also in the Mongolian oral tradition and has been formative for the traditional Mongolian worldview up to the very recent time. In both popular written and oral narratives in Mongolia, the narration of past events is directed towards the foretold future and represents the concept of "history" as a process which can be predicted, covers the past, present and future.
