Die mitt elalterliche Transformation des östlichen Mitt eleuropa wurde erheblich von neuen Eliten slawischer Herkunft geprägt. In diesem Kontext stellt sich die Frage, auf welche Art und Weise ihre Entstehung zu erklären ist, wo ihre Ursprünge zu suchen sind und auf welche Art und Weise sie ihre Macht präsentierten. Es lässt sich mit hinreichender Sicherheit annehmen, dass die slawischen Eliten schon im 9. Jahrhundert über Landbesitz verfügten. Dieser Beitrag erörtert anhand der Ergebnisse archäologischer Ausgrabungen in Pohansko bei Břeclav (Tschechien) die Frage, wie sich die Existenz und Repräsentation dieser frühadeligen Grundbesitz er in den archäologischen Quellen widerspiegelt.

The medieval transformation of eastern Central Europe was signifi cantly shaped by the emergence of new elites of Slavic origin. In this context, the question arises as to how they emerged, where their origins lay, and how they projected their power. It can be posited with a reasonable degree of certainty that the Slavic elites had already established themselves on landed property by the ninth century. In this chapter, the author examines how the archaeological sources refl ect the existence and status of these early aristocratic, with a particular focus on the results of excavations in Pohansko near Břeclav (Czech Republic).
