Abkhazia and South Ossetia Foreign Economic and Political Strategy
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This article is devoted to the foreign economic and political strategy of Abkhazia and South Ossetia after the war in 2008. In fact, there are three international subjects having considerable impact on international integration of these two regions — the Russian Federation, the European Union and Georgia. The Russian Federation is the main economic and political partner called ‘a patron state’ by many countries. The European Union tries to be a mediator in this conflict. The European Union Monitoring Mission has been patrolling the administrative boundary line (ABL) since the end of the war according to the Six-point Agreement. However, this mission was not accepted by Abkhaz and South Ossetian officials and monitors cannot cross the ABL. A lot of European NGOs are performing their program in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, but because of the influence of Georgian government on their activity they have problems building confidence. Finally, Georgia claims these two territories are indivisible parts of Georgian territory, but in practice Georgian authorities have no any effective tool to act and enforce law and obedience in Abkhazia or South Ossetia. However, reconciliation with Georgia seems to be important for future overcoming of isolation of these two regions.
