Political Participation by Ethnic Minorities in the Czech Republic
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The text deals with problems of participation by ethnic minorites in the Czech Republic after 1989 (Roma minority, Slovak minoroty, Polish minority, German minority, "new minorities", Moravians). Individual forms of political participation by members ofethnic minorities, and the promotion of their organized ethnic interests in the Czech Republic, have shown various degrees of effectiveness in achieving their goals. Ethnic political parties, with the exception of some relative successes in the first free elections in 1990, have been a marginal factor in the present party system. In some cases at least, running candidates on the ballots of the mainstream parties has proven effective from the standpoint of ethnic minorities. Interest groups in and of themselves are effective above all in maintaining the cohesion of their respective ethnicities.
