Negativity and Negative Campaigning in EP Elections in Czechia
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This presentation examines the nature and intensity of anti-EU rhetoric used by Czech political actors on Facebook during the 2024 European Parliament elections. Based on a content analysis, the study explores how criticism of the EU differs across the political spectrum, specifically comparing government versus opposition parties and populist versus non-populist actors. The analysis focuses on the thematic focus of these messages and the extent of their dissemination. Findings indicate that while government parties maintain a more moderate stance, populist and opposition actors frequently employ anti-EU narratives as a central mobilization tool, often utilizing emotional framing and anti-elitist rhetoric. The study thus provides insights into how negative campaigning shapes the digital political landscape in Czechia.
