Observing Transnational Coalition-Building of Far-Right Movements : the case of Czech-German Cooperation
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
According to social movement theory, the existence of a common enemy fosters coalition building. For the far right movement, refugees are representing such a common enemy. Hence, a reaction to the refugee crisis is the formation of coalitions, which is analyzed in the paper. Eight far right Social Movement Organisations from the Czech Republic and Germany have been exemplarily selected for the research. Their mutual connections in cyberspace are researched by extracting hyperlink networks. Besides the development of the network over a time spam of two years, basic network parameters as degree centrality, density and betweeness are analyzed. In this way, central players are identified and the different networking strategies analyzed. Also, the comparison of the networks clearly shows that it is of central importance how long single actors already exist and that language differences are no obstacle to the formation of coalitions.
