Příspěvek se zabýval distinkcí mezi pojmy divočina a divokost zejména v teoretických pracích beatnika, básníka a esejisty Garyho Snydera, navazující na tento rozdíl v díle „klasika divočiny“ Henryho Davida Thoreaua. Právě zaměňování divokosti za divočinu způsobilo řadu nedorozumění, zejména pak koncept divokosti by byl vhodný pro úvahy – i ocenění – nové divočiny, vágních terénů, ale i diskusi nad problematičností hranic mezi světem lidí a přírody.

The paper dealt with the distinction between the concepts of wilderness and wildness, particularly in the theoretical works of beatnik, poet, and essayist Gary Snyder, building on this distinction in the work of Henry David Thoreau, the “classic of wilderness.” It is precisely the confusion of wildness with wilderness that has caused a number of misunderstandings, and the concept of wildness would be particularly suitable for reflections on – and appreciation of – new wilderness, vague terrains, but also for discussion of the problematic nature of the boundaries between the world of humans and nature.
