Effects of aza-PAHs to soil nematode Caenorhabditis elegans
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Nematodes are very abundant and fundamental group of soil organisms. They are important for soil quality. Many properties of nematodes suggest them as suitable bioindicators of soil conditions and as organisms for toxicity testing. Nematode numbers and community structure are sensitive to stress, which is caused by soil pollutants and ecological disturbance. Nematodes, which are used for laboratory toxicity tests are comparably sensitive to other soil species. Moreover, they are often referred as less demanding to place and time. In our study, four aza-PAHs acridine, phenazine, quinoline and 1,10-phenanthroline - were tested. Aza-PAHs are N-heterocycles, they have some atoms of hydrogen in benzene nucleus replaced for nitrogen atoms. These matters areproducts of incomplete combustion of organic compounds containing nitrogen in presence of NOx. Some are known as mutagens and carcinogens. Their ecotoxicological properties are assessed only for few aquatic species and plants .
