The effect of Lernaea cyprinacea (Copepoda: Cyclopoida) infection on fish host
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Lernaea cyprinacea is highly metamorphosed parasite of freshwater fishes with cosmopolitan distribution. Host susceptibility to L. cyprinacea infection was studied in fish from several localities in southern Moravia. A total of 24 fish species belongingto six families were investigated during years 1999-2001. Juvenile and adult specimens of European bitterling and ide showed the highest values of parasite prevalence. The occurrence of parasite was rarely detected on percid and esocid fish. Seasonal dynamics, parasite distribution and pathological changes caused by L. cyprinacea were studied in European bitterling, collected in the Kyjovka River from July 2000 to May 2001. The presence of parasites was related to water temperature and size of host fish. A positive relationship between both prevalence and intensity of infection of L. cyprinacea and water temperature was recorded. Histopathological examination showed that L. cyprinacea appears to be an important agent of skin lesions in
