In this paper we present new tools based on client/server XML database system called DEB II. Thanks to the versatility of the XML format used, this platform enables us to cover various applications, namely the management of the electronic readable dictionaries, wordnet-like lexical databases as well as ontologies for Semantic Web applications. In the paper the attention will be paid mainly to the tool DEBVisDic which allows us to merge different lexical resources and appears as an appropriate tool for future standardization of wordnet-like databases. First, the main features of the DEBII dictionary writing platform are outlined, and the implementation strategies of both server and the client part of the DEBII platform are briefly characterized. Second,the tool DEBVisDic, a complete re-implementation of the successful wordnet editor and browser VisDic used in the Balkanet EU project, is presented and its functionality is described.
