Ausgehend von den Notwendigkeiten der europäischen Mobilität und Integration ist das Thema Mehrsprachigkeit in den letzten Jahren zu einem Schlagwort und Trend in der sprachenpolitischen Diskussion ebenso wie in der Forschung geworden. Der Artikel befasst sich einerseits mit der Frage, wie die europäischen Ideen in den Bestimmungen der nationalen Sprachenpolitik umgesetzt werden und andererseits mit der realen Sprachensituation an den Schulen sowie im Fremdsprachenunterricht. Die Umsetzung der europäischen Idee der Mehrsprachigkeit wird kritisch hinterfragt, indem neueste Forschungsergebnisse aus der Tschechischen Republik ausgewertet werden.

Based on the needs of European mobility and integration, the subject of multilingualism in recent years has become a buzzword and trend in the language policy debate as well as in research. The article focuses on the one hand on the question of how European ideas are implemented in the provisions of the national language policy and the other with the real language situation in the schools as well as in foreign language teaching. The implementation of the European idea of multilingualism is critically questioned by recent research results are evaluated from the Czech Republic.
