Factors influncing secondary school choice in students with specific learning disabilities
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Presented study deals with factors affecting secondary school choice in students with special educational needs. The aim of the study was to define differences in subjective perception of diverse factors affecting secondary school choice from the view of mainstream students and students with specific learning disabilities. The research sample consisted of 237 students of secondary school (9th graders) from which 110 were mainstream students and 127 students with specific learning disabilities educated in mainstream schools. The results of the research survey showed that the participation of pedagogical staff (ie. class teacher and educational counselor) in the choice of follow-up education, or their influence, was assessed as non-significant. Crucial, in the decision-making process, was a parents’ opinion, with the predominance of mother's opinion. Although the choice of secondary education was one of the students' discussion topics, the peers' opinion was not decisive in choose itself. Within the personal factors, there haven´t been proved the influence of leisure time activities on secondary school choice, nor even the distance of secondary school from place of residence. Still, the research survey confirmed that the choice of secondary school is primarily based on the students interests and aspirations. Statistically significant difference between the groups was observed only in terms of selected personal factors.
