The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is composed of various functional structures, which coordinate the activity of organs, systems and whole body under physiological and pathophysiological circumstances in order to maintain homeostasis. Neural regulationof the cardiovascular system is ensured by the interplay of sympathetic, vagal, and other influences, whereas the basic principle of the system is the concept of sympathovagal balance. It is not known whether the ANS activity is changed under the conditions of increased efficiency of oxygen utilisation in the working muscles after supplementation of dietary nitrate.
