Aging and physical activity and the decline of muscle strength and size of skeletal muscles in the adult population of Czech Republic
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The aim of this study was to identify relationships among the decline of muscle strength, aging and physical activity / inactivity in Czech adults. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 1,216 adults (167 physically inactive vs 1,049 physically active). The amount of skeletal muscle was determined by the bioimpedance device InBody 720 and muscle strength (hand grip strength) was measured by the hand dynamometer MIE in a dominant upper limb. # Based on the analysis of the data, we found a significant relationship (p < 0.05) between the amount of skeletal muscle and the level of muscle strength (hand grip strength) in the whole studied group (r = 0.86) and also separately in physically active (r = 0.87) and inactive (r = 0.81) individuals. The dependent variable (hand grip strength) can be explained by independent variables (age and the amount of muscle) via a multiple regression analysis. The regression equation for the physically inactive people is: hand grip strength = 0.16*age +
