In the introduction to this study text, the basic division of methodology according to different approaches and views is introduced. On the basis of the analysis carried out of the published dissertation theses at the Faculty of Sport Studies of Brno Masaryk University, Palacký University in Olomouc and at Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of Komenský University in Bratislava, we try to make students familiar with the most commonly used methodological approaches. It mainly concerns the issue of experiment and quaziexperiment, questionnaire surveys and in qualitative research the issue of interviews. At the end of the text, criteria for evaluation of the quantitative and qualitative theses are described.
