Central European metropolises and the perception of their position in the HSR network
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The paper deals with the system links between metropolises of supranational significance and the development of the High-Speed Rail / HSR network, which is an increasingly important factor for the integration of the defined Central European macroregion. In this respect, the original metropolitan evaluation methodology (reflecting the post-industrial phase of social development), which is based on three main components: population size, economic profile and business attractiveness, was applied. In total, 27 metropolises were identified, which were then divided into three types: the dominant, established and elementary metropolises. In this context, it can be stated that the type of metropolitan classification largely corresponds to their current position in the HSR networks. Then, the planned intentions of HSR construction in the Czech Republic were discussed. From a practical point of view, it can be assumed that the application of evidence-based approaches is a promising way to address the major weaknesses in evaluating the potential benefits of HSR construction that have been identified in the European Court of Auditors' audit of selected railway lines.
