Sgraffito is a very distinctive artistic technique of surface decoration of historical or even modern architecture. The name of the technique is derived from the Italian word "sgraffiare" to scratch. It is most often created by scraping to coloured plaster a chosen pattern (usually ornamental or figurative motifs). The resulting image is created as a contrast between layers of different texture and colour. The course provides knowledge of the basics of the technique followed by practical implementation of the basic sgraffito technique according to the chosen motif.
