Der vorliegende Beitrag analysiert das Thema der Entwicklung eines jungen Menschen zur Persönlichkeit in Hugo von Hofmannsthals Drama Der Kaiser und die Hexe. Analysiert werden vor allem mögliche Arten der Verknüpfung der Hauptfigur mit der Welt. Der Durchbruch zur Existenz der Hauptfigur geschieht in diesem Drama vor allem mittels der Verknüpfung mit Menschen. Berücksichtigt wird der Bezug des Dramas auf die Problematik des Künstlers.

The article analyses the issue of the development of a young man to personality in Hugo von Hofmannsthal's play Der Kaiser und die Hexe. The analysis focuses particularly on possible ways of the connection of the main character with the world. The entryinto existence (i. e. the main character's full participation in life) comes true in this play mainly by means of the main character's interpersonal relations. The article also deals with the relation of the piece to the issues and problems of the artist.
