Reflections of John Amos Comenius in the work of Vladimír Hoppe

This chapter focuses on the brief presentation of a reflection of Comenius's work in the philosophy of Vladimír Hoppe (1882-1931). As a Czech philosopher, Hoppe is considered to be a direct successor of Comenius's practical efforts to help the world through the establishment of an Academy and League of Spiritual Peace. Hoppe, who was the representative of an idealistic trend, shows complete agreement with Comenius in his basic attitudes towards the relinquishment of the sensory world and in the conviction that it is necessary to accept the order of the heart, the spiritual order, and to proceed to spiritual enlightenment and the unification of all people by way of turning to the transcendental realm. He is convinced that people's lives have to be enhanced so they can live in harmony with the eternal order. Hoppe's relationship to Comenius's legacy is especially apparent in the work Přirozené a duchovní základy světa a života (Natural and Spiritual Foundations of World and Life, 1925).
